Woodstock ‘24 Brand Identity

August 12, 2024 is the 30th anniversary of the festival which defined the attitude of the 90’s: Woodstock ‘94. Initially designed to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the legendary Woodstock festival, Woodstock ‘94 devolved into one of the most chaotic festivals of people in human history. This was mainly due to the fact that only 164,000 tickets were sold, but 350,000 people showed up. I hate to quote wikipedia, but I think they put it best when they wrote, “event policies were logistically unenforceable.” While this led to an incredible number of safety violations and horrendous viewing conditions, the sheer energy and excitement on the concert grounds became the fuel to create one of the most memorable concert experiences to date. In spite of the event’s infamous history, surviving video of the festival tells a different story, one of peace and love that calls back to the original Woodstock. I love watching not only replays of the Woodstock ‘94 sets, but these videos of people letting go of the hang ups and living in the moment. Since 2024 marks 30 years since the event which I hold such a reverence for, I thought it would be fun to imagine how the Woodstock ‘24 branding might look. I created a brand kit for the event, as well as a script for a kinetic logo which not only calls back to logos from bands who performed in the original Woodstock, it also synchronizes with music, allowing for use in a multitude of audio-visualizations.
